Frequent Questions

Do I need a referral?

No. Unless required by your Insurance Provider / Payor, referrals are NOT required but are convenient in that they often provide much needed information about your condition. This allows Dr. Efird to concentrate most of his time on exploring possible new areas not yet covered in your condition. Referrals are NOT necessary for you to be seen when not mandated by another party.

How long before I am seen?

In most cases, you will be seen within the next 1-2 weeks and urgent cases are worked into the schedule as soon as possible.

Once seen, when will my surgery be scheduled?

Most procedures can be scheduled within 1-2 weeks of the day you are seen in the office.

What forms of payment are accepted?

We accept most major insurance plans, Medicare plans, Medicaid plans and also many Private Pay options such as MDSave.

Are postoperative follow ups included?

In most cases, the initial postoperative visit, typically in 2-3 weeks, is included at no additional charge. Charges for additional visits, complications and new diagnoses will be determined on a case by case basis.

Where are the procedures performed?

Office-based procedures will be done in the Blue Ridge location, our only office site at this time. Procedures requiring a Hospital facility will be done at either Blue Ridge Medical Center or Union General Hospital, based to some degree on what specific procedure is being performed.
